People’s Alliance Party still leading vote count with 21,810 a total of 43.41 percent from the 470 polling station counted out of 2,071 as of 5pm Friday.
FijiFirst Party has 16, 515 vote with 32.8 percent, Social Democratic Liberal Party, 3,684 votes, National Federation Party 3,256, Unity Fiji 1,688 and Fiji Labour Paty 1,269.
FiijiFirst Party leader Voreqe Bainimarama is still leading on the candidate count with 11, 248 votes while People Alliance Party leader Sitiveni Rabuka has received 6,738 votes.
The counting is expected to wrap up on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) will link up with other parties to push for a recount of votes.
If the Supervisor of Elections dismisses the party’s demand for a full recount of votes, SODELPA Leader Viliame Gavoka said they will work with other parties except FijiFirst to apply pressure.
“We will link up with them and do all of this collectively. Apply pressure where it needs to be applied, and really get this thing to be above all, nothing less.”
SODELPA candidate Jope Koroisavou said they will exhaust every avenue under the law.
Gavoka announced SODELPA is demanding a full recount of all votes cast in the 2022 general election.
Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem has publicly stated that the counting of votes is manual and questioned on what grounds are the political parties calling for a recount.
Saneem: “Do they have a legal basis for a recount? Did you ask them that? In your own countries, you have to have a legal basis for recounts.”
Foreign journalist: “They believe they do.”
Saneem: “Have they submitted their requests to the presiding officers?”
Foreign journalist: “Have you received any correspondence?”
Saneem: “I’m not a presiding officer.”
SODELPA and other parties including the People’s Alliance, Unity Fiji, National Federation Party, and the Fiji Labour Party have expressed their concerns over the vote counting of the provisional results which they believe were not done transparently.
A statement just released by Fiji’s Electoral Commission has assured all registered voters that counting has been done manually.
“The Commission further notes that these are complaints and comments made in regards to the anomaly in the FEO Results App. The Commission hereby confirms that the FEO Results App is not used to count votes but is used to upload the data after the protocol of results is entered in the Result Management Information System (RMIS).
The anomaly in the FEO Results App has been rectified and the Final Result are now being published with the correct data, said the Electoral Commission.
