Solomon Telekom Company Limited’s television service TTV and National Broadcaster Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation (SIBC) have agreed on a carriage relationship to broadcast the new SIBC TV service nationwide on TTV’s transmitters and streaming Application TTV Now.
The MOU, signed in Honiara, details the relationship between TTV and SIBC should SIBC be granted intellectual property rights by the Pacific Games Organising Committee.
SIBC has placed a bid with its New Zealand partner MMG Communications to be the Host Broadcaster of the 2023 games and the national rights holder in Solomon Islands. The Host Broadcaster will be responsible for all TV and online coverage of all nine venues and involves the management of over one hundred staff and over sixty cameras.
The Board of SIBC has approved the launch of SIBC TV to coincide with the Pacific Games in November this year with a large component of the Host Broadcast equipment proposed to be transferred to SIBC as legacy for the core of the new TV station.
Last week the Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare and his Government expressed full support to the SIBC TV project with funding being processed to SIBC to start work on the new TV station.
To avoid duplication of efforts, SIBC and TTV have agreed for TTV to broadcast the content produced by SIBC on its digital service in Honiara, analogue transmitters in the outer islands and it’s TTV Now app.
“We’re thrilled to have signed with TTV. It shows a real commitment by both parties to ensure the Pacific Games and the future SIBC TV channel is shown nationwide to our people”, SIBC’s Chief Executive Officer, Johnson Honimae said.
At the same time, CEO of Solomon Telekom Christina Lasaqa said, “Solomon Telekom through TTV is happy to support the national broadcaster”.
