Pacific Islands Forum Acting Secretary General Desna Solofa has met with Takayuki Kobayashi, a member of Japan’s House of Representatives and Chair of the Liberal Democratic Party’s Policy Research Council, to discuss strengthening Japan-Pacific relations.

The meeting covered economic security, Japan’s updated Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) vision, diplomatic and security consultations, regional stability, the Ocean of Peace, and preparations for the 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting.
Discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation ahead of the 11th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM11), with both sides highlighting opportunities for sustained Japan-Pacific partnerships in support of Pacific priorities.

The engagement also reinforced the importance of cooperation in advancing the implementation of the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.
