Dalton Tagelagi has been re-elected as Prime Minister of Niue, extending his leadership following the country’s general election earlier this month.
The Niue Assembly confirmed Tagelagi’s appointment on Thursday under the country’s non-partisan political system after the 02 May national election.
Newly elected Speaker Billy Talagi was also confirmed during the Assembly sitting.
Tagelagi’s re-election ensures continuity in government leadership as Niue moves into a new parliamentary term.
Niue operates under a non-party political system where Members of the Assembly elect the Prime Minister and Speaker following general elections.
The 02 May election determined the composition of the new Assembly, which formally endorsed Tagelagi to continue leading the government.
Tagelagi has served as Prime Minister since 2020 and has overseen key national issues including economic recovery, climate resilience and regional engagement in the Pacific.
