Sebastian Visinia, Marco Fepuleai and Murphy Taramai will make their Manu Samoa debut in the run-on team against Italy on Friday at Apia Park in the July Tests.

Two other debutants Lolani Faleiva and Afa Moleli have been named on the bench and could get their first stripes.

Head coach Mase Mahonri Schwalger has named Aki Seiuli, Sama Malolo and Marco Fepuleai as the front three.

Benjamin Petaia Nee-nee and Samuel Slade will start as the lock fowards.

Captain Theo McFarland is on the blindside flank with Murphy Taramai on the openside donning the number seven jumper.

Olajuwon Noa is at number eight. Nippy halfback Jonathan Taumateine gets the nod to start and Alai D’Angelo Leuila has been given the flyhalf role.

Nigel Ah Wong starts as the blindside wing with Danny Toala and Alapati Leiua taking control of the midfield.

Sebastian Visinia is the openside wing while Duncan Pa’ia’au has fullback duties.

Andrew Tuala, Tietie Tuimauga, Lolani Faleiva, Michael Curry, Iakopo Mapu, Melani Matavao, Afa Moleli, and Stacey Ili will be on the bench.

Despite just three days of training, Mase is confident that his young side will perform well on Friday evening.

His mantra behind selecting a young side shows the plan of developing the same set of young players for the 2027 World Cup if they manage to qualify.

The Italians arrived on Wednesday night with a string squad. They have had a taste of international rugby this year in the Six Nations where they beat Wales and Scotland, drew with France and were beaten by England in a three-point margin game.

Italy and Manu Samoa have had eight previous meetings. Italy has won five of those fixtures. The last match was in 2023 where Italy beat Samoa 49-17.

The match kicks off at 5 pm at Apia Park on Friday.
