Fiji’s Minister for Home Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua claims some people, including politicians who have failed to earn power legitimately at the polls, have continually attempted to destabilise the security of the nation.

During his address on the budget debate, Tikoduadua claims these individuals continually incite and propagate the Republic of Fiji Military Forces to take power, essentially to remove the elected government.

The Minister said attempts to remove any government through the barrel of the gun must stop, and says no more coups.

“We, the Fijian people, desire peace. Any person or group that wishes to disrupt our peace and our Security deserves to be opposed and resisted according to the law.”

Tikoduadua said the Commander of the RFMF has noted that, as an institution, the RFMF is committed to upholding the Constitution and its values, ensuring their actions align with the principles of democracy and the rule of law.

The Minister is pleading with Fijians to not use the RFMF as a platform to achieve their political ambitions.

He states this is the reason why the judiciary is the third arm of the state; it is there to hear and judge grievances.

Meanwhile, Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua has clarified there is nothing serious in seeing the former Leader of Opposition Voreqe Bainimarama mingling with the Commander of the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces, Ro Jone Kalouniwai.

Bainimarama and Kalouniwai are seen dining together with the paramount Rewa Chief, Ro Teimumu Kepa, and Mary Bainimarama.

Tikoduadua said it was not a public-funded event but a private family occasion where Bainimarama was invited as a close relative of the Military Commander.

“I take nothing else from it; the commander is the sensible man; he is a professional soldier and a gentleman, so he can pretty much well manage his situation, his role, and his family because we don’t mix politics and all that, and that’s how it should really be.”

The public’s speculation has grown recently, with people questioning the status of the photo and also the past events where Bainimarama was seen on the RFMF premises.

However, Tikoduadua reassures the public there is nothing serious and people should not be worried.
