The Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) Executive Leaders Team held the first of its biannual meetings Wednesday.
PICP Chair and Fiji’s Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho in opening the virtual meeting commended fellow PICP Chiefs of Police and affiliated organisations for the work and support rendered to Pacific member countries during the pandemic and natural disasters.
“As PICP member countries, we stand ready to help as no one in our Blue Pacific is ever alone”.
“Policing undoubtedly played a leading role in ensuring the safety, security and prosperity of your respective nations – and I acknowledge with sincere appreciation the roles played by regional partners Australia and New Zealand in assisting with recovery and rehabilitation efforts”.
The PICP Chair said as most nations are on the road to recovery following the global pandemic, ELT members are looking to enhance information sharing and in-country support training and capacity building.
“Borders are opening up, movement of goods and people is continuing, and as such the security landscape will be evolving. We must be prepared for the impacts global situations will have on our policing and security”.
“I commend us all for our ability to be progressive in our way of thinking and in ensuring business continuity. Our joint efforts of progressing initiatives of importance to us during these challenging times is a testament of our collective will in making our Blue Pacific – Safer, Together”.
In attendance were the deputy PICP Chair and Commissioner of the Northern Mariana Islands Commissioner’s from Samoa, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, the deputy Commissioner’s from the New Zealand Police, Tonga, Australian Federal Police, PICP Women Advisory Network Chair Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bereta Naisua representatives of the Pacific Faculty of Policing, Cyber Safety Pasifika, New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Pacific Transnational Crime Coordination Centre, members of the PICP Secretariat and senior Fijian Police officers.
