Kiribati confirms 201 new Covid-19 cases

Kiribati Ministry of Health and Medical Services has confirmed two 201 new Covid-19 positive cases in the community on South Tarawa, Betio and Buota through PCR lab tests.

The new cases are in home quarantine due to mild symptoms

In light of the new cases, the cumulative number of positive cases in the country is now 1,744 – 42 imported and one thousand seven hundred and two (1,702) local cases on South Tarawa, Betio and Buota, and the 32 cases in Butaritari.

An 80-year-old woman admitted to the isolation centre is still in hospital.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has confirmed the first term of school this year scheduled for 14 February has been cancelled as the country is still on alert level 3 which requires schools to close.

A statement from the ministry said remote learning will be implemented.

The resumption of remote learning and first term of school will be announced later.
