United States Ambassador Jared Novelly has congratulated caretaker Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown on his re-election and met with him to discuss strengthening the growing U.S-Cook Islands relationship.
The discussions covered ocean science, maritime security, economic opportunities and practical ways for the two countries to deepen cooperation.
Ambassador Novelly said the geographical distance between the United States and Cook Islands should not limit closer Pacific cooperation.
“The Pacific has a funny way of making distance on a map seem pretty irrelevant.
We’re neighbors out here, and good neighbors show up for each other. Congratulations to Prime Minister Brown on his re-election. I look forward to what we can accomplish together,” he said.
The meeting highlighted the United States’ interest in expanding practical cooperation with the Cook Islands across areas of mutual interest, including maritime security, ocean science and economic development.
