The Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) has secured a new headquarters in Brussels, a milestone that leaders say reflects a revitalised organisation ready to meet the challenges of the Global South.
Secretary-General Moussa Batraki signed the deed of purchase, calling it a defining moment since the organisation’s founding in 1976.
He said the move symbolises a “renewed OACPS” shaped by the revised Georgetown Agreement and driven by unity, shared aspirations, and a common voice on global issues.
The new headquarters comes as the OACPS celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Batraki said it aligns with his reform agenda to strengthen the organisation, making it “more dynamic, open, useful, and accessible” for its 79 member states.
The facility is also envisioned as an open space for collaboration and innovation in advancing Global South priorities.
At the new headquarters, Batraki welcomed Somalia’s Ambassador to the EU, Dr Khadijah Ossoble Ali.
Their talks focused on Somalia’s active role in OACPS, its steps to regularise contributions, and ongoing institutional reforms, including changes to the contribution system.
The Secretary-General praised Somalia’s renewed engagement and pledged the Secretariat’s full support in helping the country return to full participation in OACPS activities.
