Israeli cybersecurity companies could offer Fiji advanced security solutions to protect government systems and sensitive citizen data following reports of an attempted cyberattack targeting the country’s information and communications technology infrastructure.
Israeli Ambassador to Fiji, Maya Yaron said Israel was globally recognised for its cybersecurity expertise, with Israeli companies well positioned to offer services to organisations seeking stronger digital protection.
Responding to questions about a statement issued by the United States Embassy last week concerning alleged attempts by Chinese agents to hack Fiji’s government ICT framework, Ambassador Yaron said she had followed the reports but was monitoring developments through media coverage.
“We are, of course, just watching this and following closely from the media,” Yaron said.
The Ambassador said Israeli companies had multiple layers of cybersecurity protection that could be made available to Fiji, particularly as organisations increasingly managed sensitive personal and commercial information.
She stressed that cybersecurity was important not only for government agencies but also for private companies holding confidential information about citizens and customers.
“Cybersecurity is something that Israel is very much known for, and it’s very strong,” she said.
Ambassador Yaron said the expertise of Israeli companies also presented potential business opportunities, adding that she could assist in establishing connections between Israeli firms and organisations in Fiji interested in cybersecurity services.
Her comments come amid growing attention to the security of Fiji’s digital infrastructure and the need to protect government systems and sensitive information from cyber threats.
However, the Ambassador did not confirm any direct involvement by the Israeli Government in responding to the reported incident, nor did she identify any specific cybersecurity arrangement being considered with Fiji.
