The Methodist Church in Fiji has announced the election of Reverend Dr Jolami Lasawa as President-elect, following the election held during the Church’s 2026 Annual Conference in Suva.
Reverend Dr Lasawa will assume the office of President of the Methodist Church in Fiji in 2027, succeeding the current President, Reverend Dr Semisi Turagavou.
In his maiden address following his election, Reverend Dr Lasawa expressed his deep humility and gratitude for the confidence and trust placed in him by the Church.
“I am humbled and fully embrace this challenge with open arms, with God’s help,” Reverend Dr Lasawa said.
He acknowledged the significant responsibility that comes with the leadership of the Methodist Church in Fiji and affirmed his readiness to faithfully serve the Church alongside his family.
“This is a responsibility that my family and I are ready to carry on,” he said.
The President-elect’s appointment comes at an important time in the life and mission of the Methodist Church in Fiji as it continues its commitment to spiritual renewal, faithful discipleship, and service to communities throughout Fiji and beyond.
The Church extends its congratulations and prayers to Reverend Dr Lasawa and his family as they prepare for this important leadership responsibility.
The Methodist Church in Fiji calls upon its members and the wider Christian community to continue praying for Reverend Dr Lasawa, that God will grant him wisdom, courage, humility and strength as he prepares to lead the Church from 2027.
Reverend Dr Turagavou, the current President of the Methodist Church in Fiji, was elected General Secretary elect and will take up the role in 2027.
His election marks another significant leadership transition as the Church prepares for the next phase of its ministry and administration.
The Conference also conducted elections for the position of Assistant General Secretary, currently held by Reverend Dr. Anil Reuben. However, the results of the election will be announced today.
Reverend Dr Reuben’s current five-year term as Assistant General Secretary will conclude in April 2027.
In addition to the elections, members of the Annual Conference continued deliberations on several important matters affecting the life and ministry of the Church.
Issues arising from and concerning the Davuilevu Theological College, the Deaconess Order, and the Women’s Fellowship were among the matters presented and discussed during Monday’s proceedings.
Representatives from each of these institutions and departments were given the opportunity to provide responses and clarifications to questions and issues raised by members of the Conference.
The discussions reflected the Church’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its theological education, ministry, fellowship and institutional life as it continues to respond to the needs and challenges of the Church and wider society.
The Methodist Church in Fiji Annual Conference 2026 continues this week, with further deliberations and announcements expected as members consider important matters relating to the future direction, mission and ministry of the Church.
