The Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA) has opened applications for a new Chief Executive Officer to lead its office and strengthen the organisation’s role in sustainable tuna fisheries and ocean resource management.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic, operational and commercial leadership to the PNA Office (PNAO), with a focus on delivering strong outcomes for member countries while maintaining financial performance, good governance and operational efficiency.
The PNA said the position requires extensive experience in senior tuna management and commercial roles, as well as strong leadership, diplomatic and stakeholder engagement skills.
The CEO will be accountable to PNA members through a governance structure involving senior government officials, ministers and national leaders.
The successful candidate will be expected to navigate complex regional and international fisheries regimes, maximise economic returns from tuna resources, strengthen the sovereign rights of PNA members over their marine resources and advance sustainable fisheries management.
The role will also involve implementing innovative fisheries management frameworks, strengthening strategic partnerships and maintaining the PNAO’s position as a leader in global fisheries governance and resource economics.
Applicants must be citizens of one of the PNA member countries and provide a written letter of endorsement from their national government.
Applicants must have a postgraduate qualification in fisheries science, fisheries economics, fisheries law, fisheries management, business management, commerce or a related discipline.
They must also have at least 10 years of senior management experience, with extensive knowledge of the tuna industry, as well as experience in budget and strategic planning and project management.
Other requirements include the ability to communicate effectively with public and private sector leaders, a demonstrated commitment to ethical business practices and fraud prevention, and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
The successful candidate will be based in Majuro, Marshall Islands, under a three-year contract.
The employment package includes salary, superannuation, relocation, travel, accommodation and education allowances.
A further contract of up to three years may be offered subject to satisfactory performance.
The current PNA CEO is Dr Sangaalofa Clark.
She is the first woman and first Kiribati national to lead the organisation, overseeing the Majuro-based headquarters that manages sustainable tuna purse-seine fishing in the Western and Central Pacific.
The PNAO is recognised internationally for its role in innovative fisheries governance and the sustainable management of tuna resources across the Pacific.
