Fiji’s Parliament has been dissolved by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, effective Sunday 30 October 2022.
“In accordance with section 58(3) of the Constitution of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Fiji, on the advice of the Honourable Prime Minister, has dissolved Parliament with effect from Sunday, 30 October 2022.
Standing Orders 113 and 123(2) outline that all the work of standing committees and select committees will stop on the day of dissolution,” a statement from Fiji Parliament said.
Meanwhile, Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has urged Fijians to exercise their right and vote in the 14 December general election.
“His Excellency the President has issued the writ for our third national election to be held on 14 December 2022.
Under our Constitution, our voices matter equally and so does our votes. So, on election day, do not watch our democracy unfold from the sidelines –– be sure to vote!” said Bainimarama on twitter.
