Papua New Guinea Electoral Commissioner Simon Sinai has announced that polling will commence on Saturday 18 June 2022 and not the initial date of 25 June.

Sinai said due to COVID-19 protocols and police mobilisation time requirement, the start of polling date has been moved forward. This will affect the campaign period back to seven weeks.

He said the rest of the dates remain the same – Issue of Writs – Thursday 28 April, Nomination Closes (4 pm) – Thursday 05 May 2022, Polling Starts – Saturday 18,2022, Polling Ends – Friday 08 July 2022, Counting Starts – Saturday 09,2022 and Return of Writs on or before Friday 29 July 2022.
