Pacific Islands Forum senior officials have stepped up regional coordination for COP31, focusing on key Pacific priorities and negotiating positions ahead of the UN climate summit.
Officials met for the seventh meeting of the COP31 Pacific Senior Officials Taskforce, building on discussions at the recent Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting.
The meeting focused on advancing the Pacific Partnership Policy Framework and identifying key Pacific “landing zones” for the Pre-COP and COP31 negotiations.
Officials also discussed preparations for the Pre-COP and the Leaders’ event, which will provide further opportunities for Pacific leaders to set out the region’s climate priorities.
The taskforce received updates from Pacific COP31 Envoys and Türkiye on preparations for the conference and its Action Agenda.
The Forum said the regional coordination was aimed at ensuring Pacific priorities remain central to the global climate negotiations and translating those priorities into concrete action at COP31.
The meeting is part of ongoing Pacific efforts to present a coordinated regional position ahead of COP31.
