Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) members have concluded their preparation briefing in Manila, Philippines, for the 22nd Regular Session of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC).
From 25 – 30 November 2025, Members finalised their collective positions and coordination strategy, ensuring they approach the Commission with a unified voice and a clear set of priorities.
As part of the week’s preparations, Members held bilateral meetings with key fishing nations to advance FFA priorities, seek support for major proposals, and strengthen cooperation on shared fisheries interests. Members also briefed the WCPFC Secretariat, including WCPFC Chair Dr Josie Tamate and WCPFC Executive Director Rhea Moss-Christian.
Forum Fisheries Committee (FFC) Officials Chair Poi Okesene reaffirmed FFA Members’ priorities for the Commission, led by the proposed adoption of a Management Procedure and Implementation Measure for South Pacific albacore, alongside calls for stronger recognition of Article 30 of the WCPFC Convention, climate-responsive fisheries management, strengthened transshipment and monitoring arrangements, and progress on bycatch mitigation.
FFA Members now turn their focus to the Commission meeting from 01 – 05 December 2025.
“The FFA Secretariat is pleased to support the Membership in the preparations for this year’s Commission, providing technical guidance and helping to advance key fisheries management priorities such as South Pacific albacore. We are confident in the work that has been done, and we wish our members every success as they take these priorities forward this week.” said FFA Director-General Noan David Pakop
