IOC President Bach to attend ONOC assembly in Guam

The Guam National Olympic Committee (GNOC) is set to welcome delegates for the Oceania National Olympic Committees’ annual general assembly on 17 May.

Ahead of the gathering, the organisation will also host a series of events and workshops to engage delegates and stakeholders.

“The XLV ONOC Annual General Assembly represents a crucial moment for Oceania’s Olympic movement, as leaders and stakeholders collaborate to shape the future of sports in the region. The GNOC looks forward to hosting this prestigious event and welcoming esteemed guests from across Oceania,” GNOC said.

ONOC represents 17 National Olympic Committees and seven associate members and is led by Fiji’s Dr Robin Mitchell. The organisation partners with the Pacific Games Council to organise the Pacific Games in the lead up to the Olympic Games.

The events began on the weekend with a workshop dedicated to Olympic Solidarity Finance at the Hotel Nikko Guam. This will be followed by marketplace and one-on-one sessions between NOCs and OS.The Olympic Solidarity Oceania Forum and OSFO annual meeting will also take place before the welcome reception. Finally, the ONOC strategic planning workshops will be held before the general assembly.

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero will officially open the general assembly, and outgoing International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach will be attending the gathering.

The IOC president will be in the country from the 15th to the 17th, according to GNOC’s Joey Miranda.
