Three candidates have been nominated for Solomon Islands Prime Minister’s election scheduled for Friday, 15 May 2026.
The candidates are Peter Shanel Agovaka, MP for Central Guadalcanal, Manasseh Maelanga, MP for East Malaita and Matthew Cooper Wale, MP for Auki/Langalanga.
The Governor-General’s Deputy Private Secretary, Maxwell Banyo, confirmed this to SIBC News
“At the close of nominations for the Prime Minister’s election at 12 noon Sunday, we received these three candidates. Agovaka is the candidate for the caretaker government, while Maelanga and Wale are candidates from the new coalition.
“With that, we now have four clear days before the election of the Prime Minister, which is set for 15 May,” he said.
Agovaka’s nomination was supported by Paul Popora Bosawai, Jaimie Lency Vokia, Rexon Annex Ramofafia, and Freda AB Tuki Soriacoma.
Maelanga’s nomination was supported by Clezy Rore, Francis M. Belande Sade, Morris Toiraena, and Daniel Waneoroa, while Wale’s nomination was supported by Rick Nelson Houenipwela, Franklyn Derek Wasi, George Temahua, and Lazarus Alfred Rina.
Banyo confirmed that all Members of Parliament have been notified of the candidates and their nominators.
