Tuvalu Prime Minister Feleti Teo has praised Taiwan’s innovation, compassion, and democratic spirit, saying they continue to inspire the world.

“May Taiwan’s innovation, compassion, and democratic spirit continue to inspire the world,” Teo said during celebrations marking Taiwan’s National Day at Niutao Hall in Funafuti.

The Prime Minister congratulated the Government and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and reaffirmed Tuvalu’s appreciation for more than four decades of close partnership grounded in shared values of freedom, democracy, the rule of law, and mutual respect.

Teo said Tuvalu remains grateful for Taiwan’s consistent support in key sectors such as education, health, renewable energy, agriculture, and digital development.

He said Taiwan’s assistance — through scholarships, medical services, and community projects — has transformed lives across Tuvalu’s islands.

“The friendship between our nations exemplifies the power of collaboration in addressing our global challenges,” said Taiwan’s Ambassador to Tuvalu, Andrew Lin.

Teo noted that both Tuvalu and Taiwan face similar challenges as small island nations, including the existential threat of climate change and growing geopolitical pressures.

He reaffirmed Tuvalu’s continued advocacy for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in regional and international organisations.

“The world cannot afford to exclude nations with so much to contribute,” he said.
