Fijian Drua and Flying Fijian halfback Peni Matawalu is under police investigation following allegations of domestic violence last month.
Police confirmed that an assault complaint has been filed, alleging Matawalu assaulted his wife,
resulting in her hospitalisation.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said: “We can confirm an alleged case of assault that is under investigation. Investigators are currently awaiting the medical report.”
Matawalu was dropped from the Drua’s Super Rugby Pacific matches against Highlanders and NSW Waratahs
Meanwhile, Fijian Drua centre Iosefo Masi appeared before Magistrate Semi Babitu in a special court sitting at the Nadi Magistrate court last Saturday.
He is charged with one count of assault.
The court heard that Masi allegedly assaulted his de-facto partner.
Masi was granted bail on the condition of one surety, a $500(US$250) non-cash bail bond, and a domestic violence restraining order.
The case has been adjourned to 25 May for plea at the Nadi Magistrate Court.
