The Pacific Islands Forum in partnership with CROP agencies and key development partners, is facilitating a Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) week from 10 to 14 February 2025 as a dedicated platform to strengthen gender equality and social inclusion across the Blue Pacific.
This initiative also underscores the power of collaboration among CROP agencies, UN partners, and civil society to support Pacific Islands Forum governments in key intergovernmental meetings at both regional and global levels.
GESI Week 2025 will foster meaningful dialogue and sectoral discussions, creating opportunities for Forum member governments and stakeholders to further collaboration and coordinate on key priorities, share best practices, and deepen understanding of common challenges.
“GESI Week highlights the Blue Pacific’s leadership in advancing gender equality and social inclusion, ensuring sustainable and equitable development for all. Through strategic partnerships and ongoing dialogue, we are working towards a more inclusive and resilient Pacific,” said Baron Waqa, PIF Secretary General.
At their meeting in Rarotonga, Cook Islands in 2023 Pacific Islands Forum Leaders endorsed the revitalised Pacific Leaders Gender Equality Declaration (PLGED), affirming their commitment to gender equality and social inclusion, and reinvigorating political will to action gender equality and social inclusion commitments.
The revitalised PLGED recognises the responsibility and importance of both men and women (and girls and boys) in working towards achieving a resilient Pacific Region of peace, harmony, security, social inclusion and prosperity, that ensures that all Pacific peoples can lead free, healthy, and productive lives
