OACPS Secretary-General Georges Rebelo Chikoti was honoured in Oviedo, Asturias, with the prestigious Royal Corps of Nobility’s Award, spotlighting the organisation’s impactful work in sustainable development, fair trade, and climate action across its member states.
The award celebrates the OACPS’s commitment to South-South and Triangular Cooperation, regional integration, and equitable global trade—vital to empowering Global South nations on the world stage.
The Royal Corps commended the OACPS’s strategic partnerships with the EU and global allies to bolster environmental sustainability and socio-economic development, ensuring that Southern voices resonate in high-stakes discussions on climate and economic reform.
Through its initiatives, the OACPS has championed fairer access for Global South enterprises to international markets, enabling them to compete on equitable terms and enhancing their influence in global dialogues on pressing issues.
Chikoti was presented with the Royal Corps of Nobility’s Award by Francisco de Borbóny Escasany, the 5th Duke of Seville and President of the Nobility Corps of the Principality of Asturias.
In his acceptance speech, Chikoti expressed gratitude for including the OACPS among global leaders committed to humanity’s betterment, noting the award as a reaffirmation of the organisation’s unwavering dedication to international cooperation and sustainable progress.
He praised the OACPS’s successful partnerships, particularly with the European Union, as crucial to advancing these goals.
Chikoti also lauded Asturias’s model of sustainable development, specifically its renewable energy transition and innovative urban planning, as offering valuable lessons for OACPS member nations.
He pledged to turn this recognition into a catalyst for further action, aiming to strengthen regional integration and foster the sharing of skills to enhance global collaboration.
The award, Chikoti emphasised, inspires the OACPS to continue championing the Global South in high-stakes conversations on climate action, equitable trade, and socio-economic resilience.
