Fiji Cabinet has given the green light to assess the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and the ten Sectoral Minimum Wage Regulations.

This review will also entail suggestions for new job classifications within the existing WRs.

According to a statement released by the government, local consultants have been appointed for the task with their findings to be presented to the Cabinet for evaluation.

The current national minimum wage stands at $4 (US$2) across 10 sectoral industries and this came into effect on 01 January, 2023.

Cabinet also approved the recommencement of the International Labour OrganiSation (ILO) Direct Contacts Mission (DCM) visit to Fiji.

The DCM visit to Fiji later this month is to follow-up and assess the progress made by the Coalition Government in the implementation of the recommendations of the ILO Committee on the Application of Standards.

The DCM will consult government, employers, workers and other stakeholders in relation to the progress made by Fiji in line with the 2016 Joint Implementation Report.
