The Papua New Guinea Parliamentary Private Business Committee (PBC) has denied the notice of the motion of the Vote-of-No-Confidence (VONC).
In advising Parliament, Acting Speaker Koni Iguan said, “The PBC deliberated on the motion Wednesday at 12:30pm at the Speaker’s lounge after the notice was given by the 14 February.”
“The committee is of the view that this motion will not be placed on the notice board,” Iguan said.
However, Hiri-Koiari MP Keith Iduhu and Sinasina-Yongumugl Kerenga Kua both queried why the second motion issued on 20 February was not considered by the Committee.
Vanimo-Green MP Belden Namah asked in a point of order” What is the reason?”
However, Iguan was adamant saying he had made the ruling clear.
“We will make it clear in due course the reasons behind the decision by the Committee.”
While Leader of Government Business Rainbo Paita moved a motion to adjourn Parliament to 28 May, at his rising the Opposition continued to be vocal as they walked out of the chambers.
Former Prime Minister and Governor for New Ireland Sir Julius Chan has made it clear he is upset over the decision by the Private Business Committee communicated to the mover which is the Opposition Leader.
He spoke outside Parliament saying, “If Parliament has no control, it has no standing orders.”
“It broke through all the Constitutional requirements, it cannot control itself then how can it control the people,” Sir Julius said.
