Fiji’s sacked education minister, Aseri Radrodro has apologised to the Prime Minister and people of Fiji – for what he termed as a ‘miscommunications involving all the parties involved.’

“I requested humbly that my termination as the Minister of Education in the Coalition Government be rescinded, and this matter be noted as a miscommunication from various parties involved, Radrodro pleaded in his media briefing on Monday.

“This matter provides good lessons for us moving forward to dialogue as Leaders in good faith and to remove any personal biases that may cloud our good judgement for our people certainly deserve better from us.

Radrodro took great length to explain his decision to remove four Fiji National University (FNU) Council members, Dr Kesaia Seniloli, Peter Zinck, Robin Nair and Priscilla Puamau in May 2023.

“I have communicated to the Honorable Prime Minister that throughout the handling of the FNU issues, I have held the best interest of the Coalition Government, listening to advise and actioning requests by Cabinet Members of all political parties forming the Coalition, and I have done my best according to law, to protect Government and the integrity of his office and that of the Minister of Education by abiding by the law as outlined under the FNU Act, Radrodro explained.

“I have also sincerely apologised to the Honorable PM if in my actions, or delayed responses perceived acts of wilful disobedience, he has deemed me insubordinate. I have also informed the Hon PM that as an Auditor in my professional career, I take liability very seriously and this is the attention that I give to my work daily. If that is the cause of delays in my office over this FNU issue, it is sincerely regrettable.

The Social Democratic Liberal Party Member of Parliament pleased with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to rescind his dismissal as Minister for Education – and the matter be noted as a miscommunication from various parties involved.

“I have pleaded with the Honorable PM that he needs to be more cautious to advise rendered to him from those who may not be providing full disclosures of work being carried out in our line of duty.

“This matter provides good lessons for us moving forward to dialogue as Leaders in good faith and to remove any personal biases that may cloud our good judgement for our people certainly deserve better from us, said Radrodro.

On Monday, Prime Minister Rabuka maintained that Radrodro has been terminated and no longer the Minister for Education – to be temporarily replaced Bill Gavoka, another SODELPA member of parliament.
