Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed that Siromi Turaga remains the island nation’s Attorney General and Justice Minister despite a cabinet reshuffle announcement early this month.
Rabuka made the statement during a press conference in Suva this afternoon.
He said the decision follows concerns raised by the Fiji Law Society and other agencies.
“We are a government that listens, Rabuka told journalists in Suva.
Rabuka clarified that a reshuffle will happen and government will seek legal advice.
“The reshuffle announcement will be made. At the moment, there has been no reshuffle. They are still where they were. The reshuffle is made when it is approved by the President on my recommendation and gazetted. Those have not been done.”
Rabuka on 13 October reassigned Attorney General Siromi Turaga to the ministerial portfolio of Lands and Mineral Resources while Filimoni Vosarogo was to become the Attorney General and Minister for Justice.
Ifereimi Vasu was reassigned to the Education ministerial portfolio while Aseri Radrodro was moved to the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, replacing Vasu.
