Team Fiji Chef De Mission Ajay Ballu has confirmed that 592 athletes and officials will represent the country at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands later this year.
Ballu said from the 592 confirmed, 102 are non-travelling reserves from 25 sporting federations including two para-sports.
Fiji has 53 per cent male athletes, 46 per cent of female athletes, three administrators and four General Managers each looking after six sports.
The medical team of 14 is headed by Dr Jone Nasome including Doctors, Psychologists and Physiotherapists.
Ballu highlighted that the extended squad has had thorough medical screening, physiotherapy sessions and rigorous training sessions.
“Under strict timelines, final team names were submitted and underwent a Selection Justification process before the final Names were submitted to the Executive Board and the Board of Management for Approval and Endorsement.”
After today’s naming, Ballu said there is a 48 hour appeals window that allows athletes and officials to appeal their cases if they feel they have been unfairly deprived of the opportunity to represent Fiji.
The first half of our delegation will depart Fiji on 14 November and return on 25 November while the second half of the delegation will depart on 25 November and return on 3 December after the closing Ceremony.
The 17th Pacific Games will be held between 19 November and 2 December 2023.
