Fiji PM announces cabinet reshuffle

Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has announced a cabinet reshuffle to strengthen the government’s commitment to improve the reach and accessibility of government services and deliver on its suite of people-centric policies under the 2021-2022 national budget.

Rosy Akbar will reassume the portfolio of Women, Children, and Poverty Alleviation, a role she held from 2014-2016.

Premila Kumar will be the Minister of Education, Heritage and the Arts. She will continue to serve as the Minister for Local Government.

The department of Town and Country Planning, previously under the Ministry of Local Government, has been moved to the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism, and Transport.

The Prime Minister will add the Ministry of Forestry to his existing portfolios.

The Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, will add the Ministry of Housing and Community Development to his existing portfolios.

The reshuffle is effective from Tuesday 24 August 2021.
