The Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) has reaffirmed its support for the UN Fourth Committee resolution on Kanaky–New Caledonia, adopted on 16 October 2025 in New York, and urged all parties to engage in peaceful and good-faith dialogue, grounded in mutual respect and the principles of the United Nations, within the framework of the Nouméa Accord
The MSG notes that the Bougival Accord, while negotiated in July 2025, has not been fully endorsed given divergent views amongst key stakeholders and that internal consultations are ongoing.
The MSG emphasised the importance of sustained dialogue, mutual respect, and inclusive negotiation with a view to reaching a comprehensive agreement on the institutional future of New Caledonia that reflects the aspirations of all parties.
“With this, we reaffirm the call for all parties concerned, acting in the interest of the people of New Caledonia, to continue their dialogue, within the framework of the Nouméa Accord, in the spirit of harmony and mutual respect, in order to continue to promote an atmosphere conducive to the peaceful evolution of the territory towards an act of self-determination.
“In line with its Leaders’ decision of June 2025, the MSG reaffirms solidarity with FLNKS and its ongoing support for La Cause Kanak through various multilateral platforms including UN-established processes such as the C-24. This decision is also in line with that of Pacific Islands Forum Leaders.
“We encourage all parties to remain engaged in good faith, through sustained, inclusive dialogue, and to work collaboratively towards a peaceful, just and durable political transition,” the MSG Secretariat said in a statement.
