The newly re-elected President of Nauru, David Adeang has officially announced his Cabinet on Thursday, unveiling a team tasked with steering the Pacific Island nation through an important chapter of its development.
The swearing-in ceremony, presided over by Justice Kiniviliame Keteca in front of the Government Office, marked the beginning of a new three-year term for Adeang and his government, following a decisive mandate from the people of Nauru in recent national elections.
President Adeang, speaking before members of parliament, dignitaries, and the Nauruan public, expressed gratitude for the renewed trust placed in his leadership.
“Speaking not just on my behalf but of my government, we are deeply humbled and profoundly grateful,” he said. “The decision of the people to return us to serve you once again is not only an honour — we consider it a sacred trust.”
Although voters opted to retain the current government, they did so with a clear message: no extended four-year terms. The people instead granted a firm three-year term, which the President described as “a mandate with no excuses.”
“We take this mandate very seriously,” Adeang said. “And we ask each and every Nauruan to contribute what they can to help us in our journey towards economic resilience, strengthening our governance, and again ensuring that the benefits of our development reach every home and every family in Nauru.”
President Adeang has taken on several high-profile portfolios himself, including Finance & Sustainable Development, Internal Affairs, Health & Medical Services, Commerce, and oversight of multiple state-owned enterprises and authorities.
Joining him in Cabinet are several seasoned MPs:
– Lionel Rouwen Aingimea will serve as Minister Assisting the President, and will also oversee Foreign Affairs & Trade, Justice & Border Control, and maritime services.
– Charmaine Eraidinomo Scotty takes on Land Management, Community and Youth, Women and Social Development, and cultural affairs.
– Shadlog Bernicke leads Infrastructure, ICT, Media, and energy utilities.
– Reagan Winson Aliklik is tasked with Transport, Fisheries, and national rehabilitation efforts.
– Jesse Jeremiah will manage National Emergency Services and Sports.
– Asterio Appi continues his role in Education and Vocational Training, along with overseeing Nauru Air Corporation.
– Delvin O’Neale Thoma will focus on the environment, agriculture, climate resilience, and Ronphos.
The new Cabinet brings together a blend of experience and continuity, with members holding strategic portfolios aimed at advancing Nauru’s sustainable growth, climate resilience, and social development.
With the government now officially installed, expectations are high for a leadership focused on tangible outcomes. Economic diversification, good governance, and inclusivity remain central themes for the Adeang administration.
President Adeang ended his speech with a heartfelt thanks to the people of Nauru.
“You have given us your confidence, your faith, and your mandate to continue leading our beloved nation. For this, and from all of us, we say from the depths of my heart — thank you. Mwa tubwa kor.”
As the island nation steps into a new chapter, the Cabinet is now ready to deliver on its promises — under close watch from a people who have made it clear that their trust must be earned through action.
