Fiji’s deputy Prime Minister and Social Democratic Liberal Party leader Viliame Gavoka has confirmed SODELPA’s support for the Coalition government is “very solid”.
And he has dismissed reports that claimed he was to deliver a letter to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka threatening the party would defect to FijiFirst if certain demands were not met.
“There is no truth that I delivered an ultimatum to the Prime Minister,” Gavoka said, speaking to The Fiji Times from Sydney, Australia.
“The support for the Coalition Government is very solid within the hierarchy and ranks in the party.
“In the SODELPA Youth AGM held recently, a resolution was adopted, lending all the support to the DPM, the SODELPA ministers and the Coalition Government.
“That is the official position of SODELPA.”
According to reports, SODELPA was giving Rabuka seven days to respond, with the threat of defecting from the Coalition Government to the FijiFirst Opposition side.
The letter to Rabuka allegedly outlined SODELPA’S dissatisfaction in terms of an agreement with The People’s Alliance not being met.
Attempts to contact Rabuka were futile.
