The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat says Pacific Ambassadors in Tokyo met with senior officials from Forum Troika member countries ahead of the Japan–Pacific Islands Forum Kizuna Talanoa.
The Pacific Island Countries Ambassador’s Group welcomed senior officials from Tonga, Solomon Islands, and Palau on the eve of the meeting being held from 10–12 March.
“The gathering provided an opportunity for the Pacific Ambassadors to brief visiting delegations on their ongoing engagements with Japan, as well as emerging opportunities ahead of preparations for the PALM Ministerial Interim Meeting (MIM) and the PALM11,” the statement said.
The discussions also looked at strengthening engagement between Pacific diplomatic missions and the Forum Secretariat.
“As an outcome, Ambassadors welcomed the prospect of continued exchanges and briefings with the PIF Secretariat, particularly in light of the high-level engagements anticipated later this year and leading towards the Leaders’ PALM in 2027.”
The meeting forms part of preparations for upcoming Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting engagements between Pacific leaders and Japan.
