The Pacific Islands Forum Troika met virtually Tuesday, discussing regional political priorities on the sidelines of the Special Forum Economic Ministers Meeting (FEMM).
Led by Tonga’s Prime Minister and Forum Chair, Dr ‘Aisake Valu Eke, the Troika includes Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown and Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele. They were joined by Palau’s President Surangel Whipps Jr and Fiji’s Special Envoy Ratu Inoke Kubuabola.
Discussions focused on the Forum Troika Mission Report to New Caledonia and the appointment of a High-Level Persons Group for Phase 3 of the Regional Architecture Review.
“Our region is at a critical juncture, and strong leadership is needed to navigate these challenges,” Dr Eke said.
The Troika last convened in October 2024 for a special mission to New Caledonia, assessing political developments. Their role is crucial in ensuring regional stability.
Fiji and Palau participated due to their involvement in past and future leadership, reinforcing the Troika’s influence.
As the Pacific faces political and economic shifts, the Troika remains central to shaping cooperation and ensuring a united regional approach.
