Leaders of five major political parties in Vanuatu — the Leaders Party, Graon mo Jastis Party (GJP), Vanua’aku Party (VP), Iauko Group, and the Reunification Movement for Change (RMC) have come together to sign an agreement to form the next government, according to Yumi Toktok Stret News.
The signing ceremony in the capital, Port Vila, marks a significant step in solidifying a coalition that will guide Vanuatu’s governance following the snap election.
The coalition represents a continuation of the government that was in place prior to the dissolution of Parliament late last year. This group also led the caretaker government, ensuring stability in the interim. With the same key players remaining united, the new administration promises to maintain momentum in addressing the country’s pressing needs.
One of the coalition’s top priorities is the rebuilding of Port Vila, which suffered extensive damage from the devastating earthquake of 17 December 2024. Leaders emphasised their commitment to fast-tracking reconstruction efforts and providing relief to affected communities.
The coalition agreement signals a strong majority in Parliament, with the parties collectively representing diverse constituencies across Vanuatu. As the official election results are finalised, the newly formed government is already preparing its agenda to lead the country into recovery and growth.
