The Fijian Parliament is set to appoint the nation’s next President on Thursday, 31 October 2024, following the endorsement of the Business Committee.
Current President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere is expected to be reappointed for another term.
“The Parliament sitting will take place at 11:00 am,” Speaker Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu announced in a statement.
The Speaker, currently leading a Fijian delegation at the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Geneva, also celebrated Fiji Day with the Fijian diaspora in Switzerland.
“It was a special occasion, bringing together Fijians living abroad, including some of our rugby players and their families,” Ratu Naiqama said.
“I emphasised the importance of unity and progress in building a Fiji where we can all live in peace and harmony. I reminded everyone of our collective responsibility to mend broken relationships and strengthen the ties that bind us,” he said.
