Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has praised Fiji Airways for commissioning new Full Flight Simulators, calling it a “momentous occasion” for both the airline and the nation.
“As we celebrate yet another landmark achievement in Fiji Airways’ remarkable journey, the commissioning of these new simulators is not just a significant achievement for Fiji Airways but for our entire nation,” Rabuka said.
Rabuka highlighted the airline’s investment of FJD$160 million (US$80 million) in state-of-the-art facilities, highligting its commitment to technological advancement, operational excellence, and the development of local talent.
“This Academy is more than just a training facility; it is a beacon of opportunity for Fijians, particularly for our women, who have long been underrepresented in the aviation sector,” he added.
Rabuka emphasised the significance of having the training facility in Fiji, noting it removes barriers that have traditionally limited participation in the aviation field.
“By providing world-class training locally, Fiji Airways is empowering more Fijians to pursue careers in aviation without the need to travel overseas,” Rabuka said.
“This not only supports gender diversity but also strengthens our workforce, contributing to the overall socio-economic development of our nation.”
The Prime Minister also highlighted the facility’s potential to attract trainees and pilots from across the region and the world, further establishing Fiji as a centre of excellence.
“It represents a broader commitment to enhancing Fiji’s position as a hub for aviation training in the Asia Pacific region.
“The Academy’s expanded capabilities will enable us to train pilots and engineers from across the Pacific, further solidifying Fiji’s position as a hub for aviation training,” he said.
Rabuka also pointed out the alignment of these investments with the government’s vision for sustainable development, applauding Fiji Airways’ efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and implement fuel efficiency measures.
“As part of its commitment to the environment, Fiji Airways pledged to plant one mangrove for every takeoff. To date, the dedicated staff of Fiji Airways have planted 79,000 mangrove plants, which play a critical role in carbon sequestration,” Rabuka said.
Rabuka congratulated Fiji Airways on their vision and leadership in establishing the world-class facility, describing it as a source of pride for the nation.
“The investment in this facility translates directly into job creation and economic growth for our people. Let us continue to work together to build a brighter future for Fiji, where opportunities are abundant, and our people can thrive in a rapidly changing world,” Rabuka said.
