France will reveal today whether it will allow Pacific leaders to visit New Caledonia ahead of the Pacific Islands Forum in Tonga later this month.

The decision from French President Emmanuel Macron will be delivered by French Ambassador to New Caledonia Véronique Roger-Lacan during the Forum Foreign Ministers Meeting in Suva.

Roger-Lacan teased the announcement on social media, stating she’s on her way to Suva with news for the Forum Troika, which includes Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown, and Tongan Prime Minister Hu’akavameiliku Siaosi Sovaleni.

The Forum Troika, meeting today will discuss the proposed high-level mission to New Caledonia, which aims to address the ongoing political tensions in the territory. If approved by Paris, Rabuka will lead the mission as the incoming chair of the Melanesian Spearhead Group.

The Forum Foreign Ministers Meeting is set to take place today at the Forum Secretariat in Suva.
