The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has officially adopted the modalities for an upcoming high-level meeting focused on the urgent issue of sea-level rise.

In a critical move, UNGA President, Dennis Francis emphasised the need for immediate and concerted global efforts to address the mounting threat faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and low-lying coastal areas worldwide.

“Today, we have charted a way forward on this urgent issue,” Francis declared on social media X, formerly twitter.

“The upcoming High-level Meeting will be a crescendo of our efforts to deliver on promises and ease anxieties for millions,” he said.

Francis urged Member States and stakeholders to participate at the highest levels, aiming to develop action-oriented solutions and send a strong, unified message to affected communities.

His call to action stressed the necessity for global collaboration in mitigating the impacts of sea-level rise.
