Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida Fumio has announced Japan’s decision to provide a fishery research vessel and equipment to enhance Vanuatu’s fishing industry and address priority issues.
He made the announcement when he met with Vanuatu Prime Minister Charlot Salwai during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM10)
Prime Minister Kishida emphasised Japan’s commitment, alongside Prime Minister Salwai, to strengthening the “kizuna” (bond) with Pacific Island countries at PALM10
They discussed aligning cooperation with the “2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent” and using the meeting to communicate their joint direction domestically and internationally.
Prime Minister Salwai expressed optimism for PALM10’s success, thanked Japan for its cooperation, and anticipated increased bilateral cooperation.
Prime Minister Kishida also assured ongoing safety efforts on the issue of ALPS treated water discharge into the Pacific Ocean, which Prime Minister Salwai welcomed warmly.
Both leaders exchanged views on various regional issues, aiming to foster mutual understanding and cooperation in the Pacific region.
