Papua New Guinea’s National Broadcaster, the National Broadcasting Corporation of Papua New Guinea (NBC) will be broadcasting the 2023 Pacific Games in PNG come November and December this year.
This comes after the broadcaster reached an agreement with the SOL2023 Games Organising Committee (GOC).
Operating a free to air TV channel, and several radio stations in a country with a population of more than 8 million people, NBC will be providing live and exclusive coverage of the Games and of the Opening and Closing ceremonies.
Kora Nou, Managing Director for NBC said: “As the largest public broadcaster in the region, outside Australia and New Zealand, it is imperative that NBC brings these Games to more Papua New Guinean viewers and listeners out of Honiara.
“We are excited to partner with SOL2023 GOC to bring the Games to more of our people through our free-to-air television channel and vast network of provincial radio stations across PNG.
“It has taken several months for both parties to reach this agreement as we wanted to maximize the coverage of the Games,” Nou said.
The Managing Director said as part of NBC’s commitment to the Games’ Coverage, they will commit equipment and personnel to the GOC in Honiara.
“This will be separate from the news crew we will also deploy to Honiara closer to the Games.
“NBC’s commitment to SOL2023 is quite substantial in terms of personnel and equipment, and we will also draw from our similar involvement and experience during the Vanuatu and Samoa Games to ensure a successful coverage of the Games overall,” Nou said.
GOC will produce over 1000 hours of coverage during the 2023 Pacific Games. GOC will also be producing a daily 8-hour World Feed program – a “ready to air” channel, produced specifically around the Games. Apart from this, rights holders such as NBC will have access to the Venue Feeds to follow Team PNG and provide Games coverage for its viewers.

“We look forward to providing a world class broadcast product across a range of media at Games time. Out rights holders, like NBC, are crucial to the successful delivery of this coverage,” Stewart said.
