A Kiribati Weightlifting team has stepped up its training regime as it attempts to qualify for the Olympics Games at Japan in July.

Champion weightlifter, David Katoatau told Radio Kiribati the team is preparing well for the Australia Open and will keenly contest the next the Oceania Championship to be held in Nauru

Katoatau said team training in New Caledonia was sponsored by the Oceania Weightlifting institute.

The team is comprised of three lifters, David Katoatau, who will compete in the 109 kg category, Ruben Katoatau in the 67 kg category and Tiiau Bakaekiri in the women’s 76 kg category.
